Little progress reining in North Korea, US commander says before Trump-Xi summit

Tokyo/Seoul: Diplomatic and monetary measures taken to get control over North Korea's rocket program have not had the coveted impact, a senior US military authority said on Thursday after the North's most recent test set off a whirlwind of calls among world pioneers.

"So far I think any reasonable person would agree ... that monetary and political endeavors have not upheld the advance individuals have been reckoning and anticipating," U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Scott Swift said in Tokyo, where he was meeting Japanese Self Defense Force authorities and remote service authorities.

North Korea`s atomic and rocket projects will be high on the motivation when Trump and Xi meet at Trump`s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida later on Thursday, with outrage in Beijing stewing over the sending of a progressed U.S. hostile to rocket framework in South Korea.
